I have really long hair?
I like to braid things into my hair:
ribbons
scarves
black cord necklaces (make sure it's the ones that tie, as the clasp could become stuck)
christmas ornaments (I have a bunch of things like this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/r... it's only slightly bigger than it looks)
For ribbons and scarves:
1) Thread them through a rubber band at the top of your hair, wrapping around a couple times to conceal it.
2) Divide hair in two sections, letting the doubled over ribbon or scarf act as the third (middle) strand, and braid.
3) Secure with another rubber band, make sure there is enough of whatever was braided in left over to tie in a bow around it.
For necklaces (this one should only be a small accent braid):
1) Divide a small section of hair in two, on whatever area you desire the braid.
2) Weave the necklace in by passing the right strand over the side closest to it, and under the opposite side. Repeat on the left.
3) Begin braiding with the necklace as the third strand. After one set of crossovers the necklace will essentially be tied loosely into your hair.
4) It's likely that the necklace will not reach the full length of your hair, so secure the end of the braid when only a small section of string is left hanging loose; just enough to allow the charm to swing a bit.
For christmas ornament:
1) I usually do this one by seperating the top half of my hair, and carefully draping the underlayer forward over my shoulder so it's out of the way.
2) Divide top layer into three strands and CAREFULLY (you may need someone else to do this part) slide the ornament's cord onto the right strand of hair, all the way to the top.
3) Making sure that the ornament stays pulled close to the top of your head until the first cross is complete (which will secure it into the hair), begin braiding.
4) Braid to end and secure. Adjust ornament so that it hangs directly over the center top of the braid.
Another favorite of mine is to twist my hair as though for a bun, but after one coil pull the ends through and tie my hair in a knot. Stick a few pins in and brush the ends out, and you have a short, jaunty little ponytail.

I have pretty long hair too. I'd say brade it in pigtailsor try french braide if you know how. Try leaving it down to , but do crazy parts like zigzags or off to 1 side.

My favourite when I had long hair was to do a single french braid down to the base of my hairline, then do about 10-15 small braids from there. Then using really tiny blossoms, about the size of the bed of your pinky nail, tuck silk flowers into the clear elastics at the bottom of each braid. You can also tuck a blossom into the V of each braid strand on your head. It's quite striking, and a very summery look. It's also no maintenance after the initial effort (about 45 min). You can go in the water, sail, wear a helmet, ANYTHING and your hair still looks MAAAAVOLUS!
Try it, I know you'll like it. I never got so many compliments on my hair when it was long, as when I wore this style.
